Tax Facts

Social security benefits, pension income, welfare payments, state unemployment, workers compensation, interest, and dividends are not subject to city tax.

The Newark School District Income Tax is collected by the State of Ohio - see Guide to Links for more information.

The Newark Income Tax Office has a dropbox on the 4th Street side of the City Municipal Building.

The requirement for you to estimate your tax and make quarterly tax payments has been lowered from $250 to $200.

You can schedule an appointment to have a member of our staff prepare your Newark City Tax Return for you free of charge - walk-in service is also available.

Newark has mandatory registration.  All Newark residents age 18 or older are required to register with the Newark Tax Office.  Registration forms are available on the Tax Forms page.  You may also register by calling our office.

Newark has mandatory filing requirements.  All Newark residents age 18 or older are required to file an annual Newark City Tax Return by April 15th each year regardless of their income.  Forms are available on the website.

If you are a Newark Resident age 18 or older and did not work during the year, please file an EZ form by April 15th.

The interest rate on unpaid taxes for tax year beginning January 1, 2017, will be 6% per annum (.50% per month).
The interest rate on unpaid taxes for tax year beginning January 1, 2016, will be 5% per annum (0.417% per month).  The interest rate on unpaid taxes for the prior tax years is still 18% per annum (1.5% per month).
